‘BHUNDIS’ (MARATHI) REVIEW | 17 May, 2024

A Square Group’s Bhundis (Marathi; UA) is the story of Balasaheb a.k.a. Bhundis (Yashraj Dimbale) and his family. Bhundis’ father, Subhan (Bharat Shinde), wants to buy a plot of land which is being eyed by the village chairman too. A tussle starts between the two families. Who finally gets the land and at what cost?

Somnath Sambhaji Tambe has written a story and screenplay, which aren’t very engaging. The drama has been stretched a lot. His dialogues are ordinary.

Yashraj Dimbale does a fair job in the title role. Bharat Shinde is average as Subhan. Rambhau Jagtap is alright as Hira. Manik Kale lends ordinary support as the sarpanch. Ashutosh Wadekar is okay as the Marwadi. Ashwin Tambe is so-so as Ghantya. Anushka Benke performs fairly well as Shital. Madhav Abhyankar passes muster as the party president. Avinash Kirti (as Kaka), Advait Dalvi (as Dadu), Shweta Pardeshi, Shital Admane, Surekha Dimbale and Kumar Patole lend fair support.

Vaibhav Rajendra Supekar’s direction is quite nice. Somnath Sambhaji Tambe’s music and lyrics are decent. Sagar Rokde and Arti Gupta’s choreography is nothing to shout about. Vinit Deshpande’s background music is ordinary. Camerawork (by Bhaskar Thokal) is average. Production designing (by Kumar Gawada) and art direction (Subhash Bhanbhane, Sachin Ichake and Rishi Makhar) are of a fair standard. Rishi Shinde’s editing should’ve been tighter.

On the whole, Bhundis is too ordinary to make a mark at the turnstiles.

Released on 17-5-’24 at Bharat Cineplex Kurla (daily 1 show) and another cinema of Bombay thru August Entertainment. Publicity & opening: very poor.
