Marvel Studios’ Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (dubbed from the Hollywood film of the same name; UA) is a superhero film based on the Marvel Comics character Black Panther. It is the sequel to Black Panther (2018).

T’Challa, king of Wakanda, dies. His distraught sister, Shuri (Letitia Wright), feels that he could’ve been saved with the heart-shaped herb which was destroyed by Killmonger (Michael B. Jordan). A year later, Wakanda is under immense pressure from other countries to share its vibranium. The quest for vibranium has prompted the CIA to use a new vibranium-detecting machine to locate underwater deposits of vibranium. Namor (Tenoch Huerta) and his blue-skinned water-breathing people attack the search team and kill it. The CIA assumes, Wakanda is responsible for the team’s elimination.

Namor approaches Queen Ramonda (Angela Bassett) and Shuri, asking them to give him the scientist responsible for the vibranium-detecting machine, failing which he would attack Wakanda. The scientist is MIT student Riri Williams (Dominique Thorne) in Boston. Shuri and Okoye (Danai Gurira) go to Boston. Namor’s warriors take Shuri and Riri underwater to meet Namor. Livid, Queen Ramonda strips Okoye of her duty as Dora Milaje, and seeks out Nakia (Lupita Nyong’o) for help to find Shuri and Riri. Meanwhile, Namor tells Shuri, he’d prefer an alliance with Wakanda against the rest of the world, but threatens to destroy Wakanda if his proposal is turned down. Nakia helps Shuri and Riri escape. Namor retaliates with an attack on Wakanda, during which Ramonda is killed.

Now, Shuri synthetically reconstructs the heart-shaped herb, ingests it and becomes the new Black Panther. She launches a counter-attack on Namor. What happens thereafter?

Ryan Coogler has written an excellent story which has a lot of drama, touching emotions, family bonding, action and thrills. The screenplay, penned by Ryan Coogler and Joe Robert Cole, is fast-paced and very engaging. There is not a single dull moment in the screenplay. The scene in which Shuri becomes Black Panther is exhilarating. Dialogues are good.

Letitia Wright does a swell job as Shuri, the princess of Wakanda, who ultimately becomes Black Panther. She is first-rate in emotional and dramatic scenes. Tenoch Huerta lives the role of Namor and delivers an absolutely fine performance. Lupita Nyong’o creates a wonderful impression as Nakia. Danai Gurira is effective as Okoye. Angela Bassett shines in the role of Queen Ramonda. Winston Duke lends able support as M’Baku. Dominique Thorne provides phenomenal support as Riri Williams. Martin Freeman (as CIA agent Everett K. Ross) is endearing. Julia Louis-Dreyfus is good as Valentina Allegra de Fontaine. Florence Kasumba (as Ayo), Michaela Coel (as Aneka), Trevor Noah (as Griot), Michael B. Jordan (as Killmonger), Mabel Cadena (as Namor’s cousin, Namora), Divine Love Konadu-Sun (as Toussaint), and the others fit the bill.

Ryan Coogler’s direction is exceptionally good. He has made a wholesome entertainer which appeals to people of all age groups. Ludwig Göransson’s music is appealing. Background music is outstanding. Autumn Durald Arkapaw’s cinematography is extraordinary. Computer graphics are absolutely wonderful. Action and stunt scenes are truly thrilling. Production designing (by Hannah Beachler and Jason T. Clark) is fantastic. Editing (by Kelley Dixon, Jennifer Lame and Michael P. Shawver) is super-sharp. Dubbing is lovely.

On the whole, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is a surefire hit.
