Excel Entertainment’s Fukrey 3 (UA) is the third in the Fukrey franchise. Bholi Punjaban (Richa Chadha) is due to contest elections and backing her is Dhingra (Amit Dhawan). Choocha (Varun Sharma), who continues to be besotted by Bholi, gets a ‘deja choo’ about what Bholi should do to win the elections. However, his friends — Hunny (Pulkit Samrat), Panditji (Pankaj Tripathi) and Laali (Manjot Singh) — have another plan. They decide that Choocha should also contest the elections and defeat Bholi as he is more popular than Bholi.
But Bholi is smarter than the four had imagined. She ensures that they are out of her way, for which she has them packed off to Africa. But Choocha has a ‘deja choo’ in Africa too. The four return to Delhi just in time to campaign for a few days. Does Choocha contest the elections? If so, does he win? Or is Bholi declared elected?
Vipul Vig has written a story in line with the earlier Fukrey films viz. Fukrey and Fukrey Returns. The screenplay, penned by Vipul Vig and (additional screenplay by) Mrighdeep Singh Lamba, may not be as hilarious as of the earlier two films, but it is, nevertheless, entertaining. There are a number of scenes in which the audience would laugh gleefully. The excessive toilet humour might irritate one section among the viewers but there will be many who would not mind that too. All in all, the craziness of the drama would go down well with the audience as it is completely in synch with the flavour of the Fukrey franchise. Vipul Vig’s dialogues, with additional dialogues by Mrighdeep Singh Lamba, are fantastic.
Pulkit Samrat looks handsome, is endearing and does a fine job as Hunny. He should be getting more films to act in because he has screen presence and also acts well. Richa Chadha does a lovely job as the sharp, cunning and self-centred Bholi Punjaban. The scene in which she cleans the public toilet to impress the electorate, while exuding oomph, is too funny. Varun Sharma evokes a lot of laughter with his antics and straight-faced humour. He is once again in his element. Pankaj Tripathi is phenomenal as Panditji. As always, it is a delight to watch him use every pore of his to play his character. Manjot Singh is lovable as Laali. His innocence, so needed for the character, and his acting abilities make for a fine combination. Manu Rishi Chaddha makes a lovely mark as Shinda. Geeta Agrawal has her moments as his wife. Natasha Kamwenje raises laughter in the role of Mombasa. The scene in which she breaks her bangles is simply hilarious. Amit Dhawan (as Bholi’s funding partner, Dhingra) is natural. Sani Ahmed and Michael Havens are impactful as Bobby and Eddy respectively. Lekha Prajapati (as the airhostess), Neelu Kohli (as Choocha’s mother) and Ali Fazal (in a brief special appearance as Zaffer) leave their marks.
Mrighdeep Singh Lamba’s direction is very competent. He knows what his audience wants in a Fukrey franchise film and he delivers. Tanishk Bagchi, Abhishek Nailwal and Sumit Bellary’s music is quite nice but should’ve been better. Lyrics (Kumaar, Shabbir Ahmed, Abhishek Nailwal, Vipul Vig and Mrighdeep Singh Lamba) are appealing. Song picturisations (Bosco Martis) are imaginative. Abhishek Nailwal’s background music is superb. Amalendu Chaudhary’s cinematography is lovely. Manohar Verma’s action and stunts go well with the mood of the film. Sandeep Meher’s production designing and Bajirao Patil’s art direction are of a good standard. Editing (Manan Ashwin Mehta) is sharp.
On the whole, Fukrey 3 is an entertainer and will keep the audience in good spirits. In other words, it will keep everyone connected with the film smiling. Collections in the first extended weekend of five days (today is a partial holiday for Ganesh Visarjan, Friday is a partial holiday for Eid-e-Milad, and Monday is a holiday for Gandhi Jayanti) will be impressive.
