The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) has requested the Maharashtra government to install a life-sized statue of veteran singer Lata Mangeshkar at Film City in her memory. FWICE president B.N. Tiwari said, “Lataji was India’s gem in the true sense, and she established a place for Indian film music on the international stage.” Other office-bearers and representatives said that the nightingale never shied away from stepping forward and helping the industry in times of crisis by doing charity shows to raise funds. They also recalled that she helped needy technicians, workers and musicians but refused to publicise this.
The apex body of 31 craft and workers’ associations recently organised a function to pay tributes to Lata.
