‘JUNGLEMAHAL: THE AWAKENING’ REVIEW | 20 January, 2023

AC Productions’ Junglemahal: The Awakening (A) is based on real incidents of the mid-1980s during the uprising of Naxalites in the Eastern Ghat range. A group of travellers is in for a shock when it reaches the rescue camps.

Arunava Chowdhury has written a story and screenplay, which don’t hold appeal for the large mass base of audience. The drama is dull, dry and drab. What’s more, it moves on a single track, adding to the boredom of the viewers.

Masoomeh Ab is so-so. Aditya Baliyan does fairly well. Farhad Khairy performs quite well. Suraiya Parvin is okay. Amit Raina acts reasonably well. Prashant Shinde is alright.

Arunava Chowdhury’s direction is of the kind which would appeal to the festival circuit audience only. Luis Lopez Pinto’s music is nothing to shout about. Arunava Chowdhury’s camerawork is appealing. His editing leaves something to be desired.

On the whole, Junglemahal: The Awakening has almost nil commercial prospects as it is meant only for the audience in the festival circuit.

Released on 20-1-’23 at Inox Malad (daily 1 show) and other cinemas of Bombay thru VRG Media. Publicity & opening: poor. …….Also released all over.
