Malayalam film actor and MLA M. Mukesh was recently booked in a case of rape and sexual assault on the complaint of an actress. This has sparked a raging debate and call for the governing party MLA’s resignation. Earlier, actors Jayasurya and Maniyanpilla Raju were also booked for sexual assault.
A court in Kochi, meanwhile, granted Mukesh protection from arrest till September 3.
Justice Hema Committee has brought into focus instances of sexual harassment and exploitation of women in the Malayalam film industry. In its aftermath, actresses and others of the fairer sex have been coming out in the open with complaints of sexual misconduct against actors and filmmakers.
