Sooraj Pancholi was acquitted by a special CBI court today (April 28) in the Jiah Khan suicide case, due to lack of evidence. The actor had been charged with abetment to suicide.
Jiah Khan, actress and girlfriend of Sooraj, was found hanging in her Juhu flat in Bombay on June 3, 2013. The Juhu police arrested Sooraj on June 10 that year for allegedly abetting her suicide. He was in custody for almost a month till the Bombay high court granted him bail on July 3, 2013.
Special CBI judge A.S. Sayyed told Sooraj today that he was being acquitted due to paucity of evidence against him.
Sooraj’s parents, Aditya Pancholi and Zarina Wahab, were ecstatic after their son’s acquittal.
