The person who issued a Twitter threat to South actor Vijay Sethupathi’s family is said to be hiding in Sri Lanka, police said on 22nd October. The Madras cyber crime police received a reply on the location of the accused from Twitter’s head office and will send a police team to the island nation to detain and question the suspect. The Madras police are likely to send a letter rogatory (formal request from a court to a foreign court for judicial assistance) to the Sri Lankan government to help bring the suspect to Madras. Interpol authorities have already issued a blue corner notice against the suspect. The notice will help the Madras police locate, identify or obtain information on the suspect without any hindrance.
The suspect had issued a threat to the family of the actor, including a threat to rape his daughter, after Vijay confirmed that he was acting in a biopic on former Sri Lankan cricketer Muttiah Muralitharan. Vijay has since pulled out of the film following controversies surrounding the film.
