Poonam Dhillon and Padmini Kolhapure, president and senior vice president respectively of the Cine and TV Artistes’ Association, have lost the court battle relating to the Association elections scheduled to be held on September 12 following mass resignation of its executive committee members. The two office-bearers, against whose autocratic functioning eleven members of the executive committee resigned, had pleaded for a cancellation of the diktat of CINTAA’s parent Association, the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE), that elections to the executive committee be held on September 12.
It may be mentioned here that eight elected members of the executive committee, including general secretary Upasna Singh and senior member Deepak Parasher, and three co-opted members resigned from the CINTAA’s committee when they were frustrated with the two senior actresses and office-bearers for sidelining them in all the Association’s meetings, press conferences, publicity campaigns and events. Following this almost unprecedented step, the parent body (FWICE) stepped in to announce fresh elections. As this did not sit well with Dhillon and Kolhapure, the two went to the Dindoshi (Andheri) sessions court in Bombay to get a stay on the elections. However, the court did not grant a stay and hence elections for the executive committee will be held on September 12.
