KARAN OBEROI MOVES HC FOR BAIL IN RAPE, EXTORTION CASE | 1 June, 2019

After a sessions court denied television actor-singer Karan Oberoi bail, he filed a bail application before the Bombay high court on 28th May in a case of alleged rape. The Oshiwara (Bombay) police had arrested Karan on 5th May after a 34-year-old lady astrologer filed an FIR accusing him of rape and extortion.

The bail plea contends that the rape and extortion case is false and was filed after he tried to distance himself from her following a consensual relationship as she was “obsessed with him”.

The sessions judge had discarded her allegations of rape and extortion but he still denied bail on a “completely unconnected ground which is the brainchild of the judge”. The bail plea before the high court alleges that the judge created a new theory that possibly because of acceptance of gifts by Oberoi, there was an express/implied commitment to marriage.
