It’s just a coincidence but a big one at that. On 9th September were announced two mammoth films — Mogul and Prithviraj — both biopics. While Prithviraj is the biopic of warrior Prithviraj Chauhan, Mogul will recount the life and rise of late music magnate Gulshan Kumar.
Aamir Khan had last year announced his association with Mogul, not just as the hero but also as a producer. However, when Subhash Kapoor, who was directing the film, was dragged into a case of sexual harassment, Aamir was quick to announce his unwillingness to carry on with a filmmaker facing as serious a charge as sexual harassment (by actress Geetika Tyagi). He reconsidered his decision recently, and formally announced on 9th September that he would act in and produce Mogul, that too, with Subhash Kapoor directing it. As for Prithviraj, Yash Raj Films announced the film formally on 9th as it was hero Akshay Kumar’s birthday that day. Although Akshay has been part of historicals in the past too, Prithviraj will be YRF’s first ever historical.
Incidentally, Akshay Kumar was the first choice for the title role in Mogul.
