KANGANA-JAVED AKHTAR CASES TRANSFERRED TO BANDRA COURT | 11 September, 2024

As actress Kangana Ranaut is now a Member of Parliament, the court cases in which she is a party have been transferred from the Andheri magistrate’s court in Bombay to the Bandra magistrate’s court in Bombay, which handles cases involving MPs and MLAs. Ranaut is an MP from the Mandi Lok Sabha constituency from Himachal Pradesh.

In November 2020, writer-lyricist-poet Javed Akhtar filed a defamation case against Kangana, in which he alleged that she had damaged his immaculate reputation by giving an interview (in the aftermath to actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s death in June 2020) to a news channel, in which she falsely attributed statements to him (Javed). In September 2021, Kangana accused Akhtar of extortion and criminal intimidation and claimed that in a public dispute with her co-star, Hrithik Roshan, Javed Akhtar had called her sister and her to his house, threatened her and forced her to tender a written apology.

The Juhu (Bombay) police had earlier submitted a report that offences relating to defamation were made out against Ranaut. Following this, the court on February 1, 2021, issued a process against her.
