Actress Nayanthara has written an open letter to actor Dhanush for sending her a Rs. 10-crore lawsuit for her Netflix docuseries, Nayanthara: Beyond The Fairy Tale, which is set to release on 18th November. The notice for damages of Rs. 10 crore has allegedly been sent by Dhanush for a 3-second clip which the actress has used from his Tamil film, Naanum Rowdy Dhaan, starring Nayanthara and Vijay Sethupathi. The open letter has also been posted by her on social media.
Calling this his all-time low, the actress has lashed out at him for creating roadblocks in her docuseries. She has accused him of going all out against the film (Naanum Rowdy Dhaan) when it was released in 2015 and still nursing a grudge against her. Nayanthara has compared her rise to stardom with his, saying that while he had the support of his father and director-brother, she was a self-made woman with no links in the industry and someone who had to “struggle my way to the position I hold today”.
Admitting that while the docuseries includes clips of many industry well-wishers, she regrets that it does not include her “most special and important film, Naanum Rowdy Dhaan” because of his pettiness. She has lamented that she battled it out with him for two long years for an NOC for the clip but he didn’t permit the use of even photographs! She said in the letter that his legal notice after the release of the trailer of her docuseries, for the 3-second clip from his film, came as a shock to her. “This is an all-time low from you and speaks so much about your character,” the letter adds. It goes on to say: “It’s almost been 10 years since the release of the film and it is a long time for someone to continue to be this vile while wearing a mask in front of the world. I have not forgotten all the horrible things that you said about the film that was one of your biggest hits as a producer and a film that is loved by all even today… I learnt through film circles that your ego was supremely hurt after the film became a blockbuster. Your displeasure over its success was perceptible even to common man through award functions connected with this film.”
