Superstar Allu Arjun was arrested today (December 13) in the Sandhya cinema stampede case in Hyderabad on December 4, in which a woman died. The lady’s son was critically injured.
A massive crowd had gathered at Sandhya cinema on December 4 to catch a glimpse of the Pushpa: The Rule Part 2 actor who had arrived there for the premiere of his Telugu film. The woman and her family were in the crowd at the cinema, when excited fans lost control in a bid to watch their favourite star.
The arrest comes eight days after the tragic incident took place. The Chikkadpally police station in Hyderabad had registered a case against the actor, his security team and the cinema management under sections 105 and 118(1) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) based on the complaint lodged by the deceased woman’s family. The actor was picked up from his residence this morning.
Allu Arjun had approached the Telangana high court seeking to clear his name from the FIR relating to the case, but it has not come up for hearing so far. The owner and two employees of Sandhya cinema were arrested earlier.
After recording his statement, the actor was taken to Osmania Hospital for a check-up. He will be presented in court later. Meanwhile, Allu Arjun’s lawyers have moved a lunch motion petition in the high court to ensure that he is not arrested until Monday, December 16. The petition will be heard at 2.30 p.m.
