‘AGA AGA SUNBAI! KAY MHANTAY SASUBAI?’ (MARATHI) REVIEW | 16 January, 2026

Zee Studios and Sunflower Studios’ Aga Aga Sunbai! Kay Mhantay Sasubai? (Marathi; UA) is a story about a widow and her mother-in-law.

Manasvi (Prarthana Behre) and Saurav (Nakul Ghanekar) are newly married. Manasvi’s mother-in-law, Smita (Nirmiti Sawant), is not very fond of Manasvi because she (Smita) is old-fashioned while Manasvi is modern in her thinking. The two have constant fights. One day, Saurav and his father are killed when a hoarding falls on them. The fights between Manasvi and Smita escalate so much after the two deaths that the former returns to her parental home. However, circumstances force the two to come together again. And in their new innings, they form a lovely bond of love and sacrifice.

Vaishali Naik and Omkar Mangesh Datt’s story is heartfelt but lacks novelty. The duo’s screenplay should’ve tugged more at the heart strings. In other words, the emotional quotient ought to have been higher. Another drawback is that the drama is predictable. Having said that, it must be added that ladies and families will find some scenes to be very heartwarming. The duo’s dialogues are good.

Prarthana Behere does very well in the role of Manasvi. She plays the character with understanding. Nirmiti Sawant shines as mother-in-law Smita. Rajan Bhise is alright as father-in-law Arun Desai. Nakul Ghanekar is okay as husband Saurav. Abhinay Sawant makes his presence felt as Manasvi’s advocate-friend, Amit. Swapnil Rajshekhar is okay as the owner of the advertising company. Others are adequate.

Kedar Shinde’s direction is good. Despite not armed with an extraordinary script, his narration keeps the audience entertained. Music (by Kunal-Karan, Devdutta Baji and Suraj-Dhiraj) is appealing. Valay Mulgund’s lyrics are alright. Chetan-Chetan’s song picturisations are ordinary. Kunal-Karan’s background music is impactful. Mayur Hardas’ cinematography is nice. Mahesh Kore’s art direction is appropriate. Mayur Hardas does a fine job of the editing.

On the whole, Aga Aga Sunbai! Kay Mhantay Sasubai? is an average fare.

Released on 16-1-’26 at Plaza (daily 2 shows) and other cinemas of Bombay by Zee Studios. Publicity: okay. Opening: dull.
