EROS FILES RS. 84-CRORE COPYRIGHT SUIT AGAINST AANAND L. RAI | 17 January, 2026

Eros International Media Ltd. has filed a copyright suit in the Bombay high court against producer-director Aanand L. Rai and his banner, Colour Yellow Media Entertainment LLP, for illegally riding on the goodwill of its 2013 hit, Raanjhanaa, while promoting and releasing his 2025 film, Tere Ishk Mein. Eros has demanded Rs. 84 crore as compensation.

In a commercial Intellectual Property suit and a related interim application, Eros has alleged trademark infringement, copyright infringement, and passing off, claiming that Tere Ishk Mein was deliberately projected as a “spiritual sequel” to Raanjhanaa without any permission.

The defendants in the suit, besides Colour Yellow, include Super Cassettes Industries, writer Himanshu Sharma, and Netflix Entertainment Services India LLP.

As per the complaint, Eros has claimed that it is the producer and “exclusive owner of all intellectual property rights” in Raanjhanaa, including copyright, trademarks, characters, dialogues, prequel, sequel and remake rights. The suit states, “The plaintiff is the producer and exclusive owner of all intellectual property rights in the highly successful Hindi language film Raanjhanaa, including without limitation… copyright, registered trademark rights in Raanjhanaa, character rights including in ‘Kundan Shankar’ and ‘Murari’, and remake, prequel and sequel rights.” Eros has alleged that Colour Yellow, Aanand L. Rai and others misused these rights to market Tere Ishq Mein.
