‘SHATAK’ REVIEW | 20 February, 2026

ADA 360 Degree, Mylo Entertainment and Panorama Studios’ Shatak is the story about the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). It talks about the pre-Independence times and how the RSS came into being. It also delves into the incidents that led RSS to become a formidable force in Indian politics. The film has been made by extensively using AI to recreate the freedom fighters of yore.

Nitin Sawant, Rohit Gahlowt and Utsav Dan’s story is merely a documentation of the birth and growth of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). The trio’s screenplay is written like a mere piecing together of important events in the journey of the RSS. Dialogues, written by the three writers, are commonplace.

The main characters in the drama are Dr. Keshav Baliram Hedgewar, Guruji Madhav Sadashivrao Golwalkar, Dr. Balakrishna Shivram Moonje, Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak, Anna Sohni, Balasahab Devras and Appaji Joshi. The actors have been made to resemble the late freedom fighters by use of AI tools. Their performances are fair. These and other actors — Sachin Pilgaonkar (voice acting), Shivshailesh, Govind Pandey, Yash Wakale, Saumya Daan, Jigna Bharadwaj, Sanjeev Tiwari, Harish Moily, Harshvardhan Sharma, Dinpaal Ganguly, Dilip Karad, Rajesh Jolly, Aza, Nand Kishore Pandey, Nilufer Middey Khan, Yash Pednekar, Sreeja Banerjee, Utsav Dan, Himanshu Rana, Shailendra Patel, Manu Rajeev, Javed Pathan, Harry Patel, Gaurav Haldar, Ghanshyam Shukla, Saumitra Athalye, Mitali Deolankar, Anil Nagarkar, Subham Kharey, Sanika Nanda, Ganesh Shinde, Naren Prajapati, Arun Gawali and Taneesha Singh — have acted quite well.

Ashish Mall’s direction is dull. The narration simply fails to keep the audience engaged or entertained. Except for connoisseurs of history, viewers won’t find much to savour in the film. Music (Sunny-Inder, Sushant-Shankar, Vivek Kar and Anuj Garg) is an asset. All the songs are melodious. Kumaar’s lyrics are appropriate. Monty Sharma’s background music is alright. Vijay Kumar’s camerawork is quite nice. Prashant Parab’s art direction is okay. Chin2 Singh’s editing should’ve been sharper.

On the whole, Shatak is a flop show.

Released on 19-2-’26 at PVR Juhu (1 show; in daily 3 shows from 20-2-’26) and some more cinemas, and on 20-2-’26 at Inox (daily 3 shows) and other cinemas of Bombay by Panorama Studios. Publicity & opening: poor. …….Also released all over. Opening was dull everywhere.
