‘TOY STORY 5’ (ANIMATION; DUBBED) REVIEW | 19 June, 2026

Walt Disney Pictures and Pixar Animation Studios’ Toy Story 5 (animation; dubbed form the Hollywood film of the same name) is the fifth film in the very popular Toy Story franchise.

Bonnie gets herself a frog-themed tablet named Lilypad. Becoming addicted to Lilypad, Bonnie starts neglecting her toys. Jessie tries to explain to Lilypad how her presence has adversely affected Bonnie’s social life. Misinterpreting Jessie, Lilypad ends up finding friends for Bonnie. So Jessie contacts Woody to let him know about the situation. Woody decides to return to Bonnie. Here, Chelsea invites Bonnie over for a sleepover. Jessie and Bullseye hide in her suitcase while Bonnie takes Lilypad with her. Jessie and Bullseye are forced to return with Bonnie’s dad instead of staying with Bonnie overnight, but they find themselves delivered to the farmhouse of Jessie’s old owner, Emily. There, Jessie meets a device, Smarty Pants, and many other devices. She learns that a new family, named Manoukians, consisting of a girl named Blaze and her mother, now inhabit the farmhouse.

When Woody reaches Bonnie’s house, he and Buzz realise that Jessie is missing. They confront Lilypad, but she tricks Bonnie’s parents into putting everyone, except Woody and Buzz, in storage. The two then unplug Lilypad’s charger. Jessie tries to contact Bonnie’s house from the farmhouse through Lilypad. Woody and Buzz force Bonnie and her mother to retrieve Jessie, but Bonnie rejects Jessie and Bullseye because her friends mock the toys. Meanwhile, Lilypad has landed herself in a donation box in a truck as she is guilty of making Bonnie miserable. Jessie, Woody and Buzz reach the truck and convince Lilypad to make Bonnie and Blaze friends.

Andrew Stanton’s story is quite interesting but does become boring at places. The screenplay, written by Andrew Stanton and Kenna Harris, is fast-paced and doesn’t give the audience time to think. However, it does not consume the viewers completely.

Voice acting of some of the characters is very good while of others could’ve been better.

Andrew Stanton’s direction is fairly nice. Randy Newman’s background music is appealing. Matt Aspbury and J.C. Kalache’s cinematography is eye-filling. Bob Pauley’s production designing is of a fine standard. Jennifer Jew’s editing could’ve been sharper. Dubbing is proper.

On the whole, Toy Story 5 is an ordinary entertainer. While the dubbed Hindi version’s business will be below the mark, the original English version’s will be better.

Released on 19-6-’26 at Movie Time Goregaon (3D; daily 2 shows) and other cinemas of Bombay thru JioStar India Pvt. Ltd. Publicity: so-so. Opening: dull. …….Also released all over. Opening was weak at many places.
