The Supreme Court on January 21 granted Kannada film actress Ragini Dwivedi bail in a drugs racket case. She had been arrested in the case in September last year. A bench of Justices R.F. Nariman, Navin Sinha and K.M. Joseph granted the actress relief after her lawyer drew parallels with the Rhea Chakraborty case and pleaded that his client, at the most, could be accused of consuming drugs for which the punishment is a year-long imprisonment.
Ragini’s lawyer said that the police had not found drugs when her house was searched, and there was no evidence to substantiate the allegation that she was part of a conspiracy to organise rave parties where drugs were being supplied and consumed. Ragini approached the apex court after her bail application was rejected by the trial court and the high court.
