The release of Universal’s Fast & Furious 9: The Fast Saga in India has been put off once again. Warner, which releases all films of Universal in India, had announced that the action flick would hit the screens on 19th August. But the latest news is that the Vin Diesel starrer will now release on 3rd September. However, Warner refused to comment either way. Neither did it confirm that the film had been postponed nor did it say that F9 would keep its date with the public.
This would be the second postponement of the film which was first announced for 5th August in India. It may be mentioned here that according to our sources, Universal did not want to clash with Bollywood’s Bellbottom which is also slated for release on 19th August, hence the studio took its film two weeks ahead. Point to be noted is that thanks to the lockdown in India, Universal could not release the film simultaneously with the rest of the world. F9 had opened in South Korea on 19th May this year. In the US, it had released on 25th June.
Frankly, all Hollywood studios, except Warner Bros., are playing it safe. They have been waiting for cinemas all over India to reopen before they release their big-budget films theatrically. On the other hand, Warner released The Suicide Squad 2 on 5th August in India, and The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It today (13th August) even though cinemas in Maharashtra (a big territory) are still shut. Warner’s Reminiscence is due on 27th August.
