De De Pyaar De took a lukewarm start on Thursday (paid previews) this week. Collections on Friday started slow but positive mouth publicity helped collections increase as the day progressed.
Student Of The Year 2 could not live up to the expectations of the first part, SOTY. Although it did well in the first weekend, collections declined quite a bit on Monday. The onset of Ramzan also adversely affected collections but the main reason were the bad public reports of the film. It collected Rs. 11 crore on Friday, which was less than expected. Collections increased to Rs. 13 crore on Saturday but dropped to Rs. 11.50 crore on Sunday. The elections in North India and the IPL cricket final match on Sunday were also responsible for Sunday’s collections being lower than those on Saturday. The weekend total of Rs. 35.50 crore was not upto the mark but what was more frightening was the poor word of mouth for the film. Collections during the weekdays, as expected, dropped fast. It netted Rs. 5.25 crore on Monday, Rs. 4.85 crore on Tuesday, Rs. 4.30 crore on Wednesday, and Rs. 3.60 crore on Thursday, taking the total for the weekdays to Rs. 18 crore. In this way, the first week closed at Rs. 53.50 crore.
Never Give Up had to give up its battle at the box-office due to poor patronage in the first week.
Chhal fared miserably in 1st week in Bombay.
Chhota Bheem Kung Fu Dhamaka (animation) did ordinary business in the first week. It netted Rs. 1.77 crore in the weekend, and Rs. 0.83 crore during the weekdays. Its week closed at Rs. 2.60 crore.
Pokémon Detective Pikachu (dubbed) and the English original of the same name did fair business in 1st week. It collected Rs. 1 crore on Friday, Rs. 1.75 crore on Saturday, and Rs. 1.70 crore on Sunday. Its total for the first weekend was Rs. 4.45 crore. Collections on Monday and Tuesday were Rs. 0.80 crore each while on Wednesday and Thursday, they were Rs. 0.70 crore each. By adding Rs. 3 crore to the kitty during the weekdays, it took the first week’s total to Rs. 7.45 crore.
Avengers: Endgame (dubbed) and the English original of the same name continued to score in the third week. It collected Rs. 2.75 crore on Friday. Collections almost doubled on Saturday which closed at Rs. 5.25 crore. Sunday also ended at Rs. 5.25 crore. The third weekend’s total, therefore, was Rs. 13.25 crore. Collections in the weekdays were as follows: Monday – Rs. 2 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 1.80 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 1.70 crore, Thursday – Rs. 1.50 crore. The addition of Rs. 7 crore during the weekdays made the third week’s total go up to Rs. 20.25 crore. The grand total for 3 weeks was a fabulous Rs. 358.60 crore.
The Tashkent Files added Rs. 1.65 crore to its kitty in 5th week. Its total for 5 weeks: Rs. 16.04 crore.
