Veteran actor Ramesh Deo breathed his last today (2nd February) in Bombay. He suffered a heart attack around 8.30 p.m. at the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital. He had turned 93 on 30th January, just three days before his end came.
A fabulous character actor, Ramesh Deo had acted in a number of Hindi and Marathi films. Among his well-known Hindi films are Anand, Dus Lakh, Aap Ki Kasam, Mere Apne, Khilona, Prem Nagar, Fakira, Saraswatichandra, Rampur Ka Lakshman, Dada, Koshish, Joroo Ka Ghulam, Dharma, Kora Kagaz, Patita, Dream Girl, Kora Kagaz, Khud-Daar, Jeevan Mrityu, Ilzaam, Kudrat Ka Kanoon, Mr. India, Sindoor, Gharana, Pratibandh, Ghayal, Jolly LL.B. etc. He had acted in almost 300 Hindi films, around 200 Marathi films and nearly 30 Marathi stage-plays in his six-and-a-half-decade-long career. He started his career in Hindi films with Aarti (1962). But before that, he had debuted in Marathi films in 1956 with Andhala Magto Ek Dola. Five years before that, he made a cameo appearance in Paatlachi Por (Marathi). Ramesh Deo and his wife, Seema Deo, played a couple on the screen in many films. He had also produced films and TV serials, and directed some of them. He had also made many ad films.
Although he was born in Amravati (in Maharashtra), his ancestral roots were in Jodhpur (Rajasthan).
Ramesh Deo is survived by his wife and two sons, director Abhinay Deo and actor Ajinkya Deo.
