Released last week in U.P., East Punjab and Rajasthan, Sanvik Production’s Sher Gujjar (UA) is the story of a self-respecting and cultured Gurjar man who is forced to take up a job as a security supervisor in a factory when the crops in his village fail. He is humiliated by his employer in front of his five-year-old son. The son grows up to be a smart and fearless man who helps the needy.
The script is weak and lacks novelty as it deals with a topic one has seen in umpteen earlier films. Neither the story nor the screenplay manage to hold the viewers’ attention. Even the dialogues are ordinary.
Ravinder Gurjar is okay as Ravinder. Gajendra Chauhan does a fair job as the self-respecting Narayan Gurjar. Priyanka S. Sharma (as Ravinder’s wife) lends ordinary support. Mushtaq Khan is so-so. Rekha Singh (as Ravinder’s mother), Kabeer Rai (as Rocky), Laxman Ram (as Mahaveer), Manav Tiwari (as Ravinder’s friend) and Sanjeev Jain provide routine support.
Aakash Gupta’s direction and editing barely pass muster. Music (Aakash, Anand, Gulshan and Sakksham) is functional. Lyrics are below the mark. Shyam Bharti’s camerawork is dull.
On the whole, Sher Gujjar holds some appeal for the audiences among the Gurjar community only.
