The opening of JANHIT MEIN JAARI and Hollywood’s JURASSIC WORLD: DOMINION, both the new releases of this week, was not up to the mark. JANHIT, of course, took a horrifyingly poor start. Its shows had to be cancelled at some places in spite of the cap of Rs. 100 only, on ticket prices in many multiplexes and single-screen cinemas as a move to boost attendance.
Samrat Prithviraj did reasonably well on Saturday and Sunday after an average start on Friday, but ultimately lost the box-office battle as collections dropped quite markedly post the weekend. More than the merits, the fair collections in the first weekend were because of the publicity the film garnered due to it being granted tax-exemption by three state governments. Another state (Gujarat) government followed suit during the week but collections are dull now, even after the tax-exemption. The first day closed at Rs. 10.70 crore, Collections picked up by less than 20% on Saturday so that the day closed at Rs. 12.60 crore. The figure of net collections on Sunday was Rs. 16.10 crore, implying a jump of around 30% over the previous day’s collections. Considering that the start itself was not too impressive, the increase in collections on days 2 and 3 was far from impressive. The first weekend’s dull total of Rs. 39.40 crore gave an indication of the scenario that was going to unfold during the weekdays. Collections were as follows: Monday – Rs. 5 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 4.25 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 3.60 crore, Thursday – Rs. 2.80 crore. In this way, the total for the weekdays was a dull Rs. 15.65 crore. Therefore, the first week closed at Rs. 55.05 crore.
Major could not do much in its first week, mainly because of a new hero (for the Hindi-speaking audience) and lack of promotion of the film. It started with a take of Rs. 1.10 crore on day 1. Collections increased to Rs. 1.51 crore on Saturday, and further to Rs. 2.05 crore on Sunday, taking the first weekend’s total to Rs. 4.66 crore. Collections during the weekdays were: Monday – Rs. 0.80 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 0.75 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 0.75 crore, Thursday – Rs. 0.55 crore. Therefore, the total for the weekdays was Rs. 2.85 crore. First week’s total: Rs. 7.51 crore.
Vikram Hit List (Hindi dubbed version of Tamil Vikram) could not do anything substantial in the first week. Although the original Tamil film did roaring business in the first week in Tamil Nadu as well as Overseas, the Hindi dubbed version remained a non-starter. It netted only Rs. 0.32 crore on the first day. Collections on Saturday and Sunday were Rs. 0.71 crore and Rs. 1.14 crore respectively. As a result, the first weekend closed at a pathetic Rs. 2.17 crore. Collections for the weekdays were even more miserable: Monday – Rs. 0.51 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 0.57 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 0.56 crore, Thursday – Rs. 0.43 crore. In this way, the total for the weekdays was a terrible Rs. 2.07 crore. First week’s total: Rs. 4.24 crore only!
Top Gun: Maverick (dubbed and original English version) did fair business in 2nd week. Actually, the Hindi dubbed version fared poorly whereas the original English version continued to shine at the ticket windows.
Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 continued its rule over the box-office and was, in a manner of speaking, unstoppable in its third week too, in spite of the release of Samrat Prithviraj. It crossed the Rs. 150-crore mark in the third weekend itself. Its third weekend started with a take of Rs. 2.81 crore. Collections on Saturday jumped to Rs. 4.55 crore, and on Sunday to Rs. 5.71 crore. Therefore, the total for the third weekend was an impressive Rs. 13.07 crore. Its total for 17 days was Rs. 155.02 crore. Collections for the weekdays were also quite good: Monday – Rs. 2.25 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 2.16 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 2.11 crore, Thursday – Rs. 1.81 crore. Its total for the weekdays was, therefore, Rs. 8.33 crore. Total for third week: Rs. 21.40 crore. Grand total for 3 weeks: Rs. 163.35 crore.
Irsal (Marathi) fared miserably in the first week in Maharashtra.
Zollywood (Marathi) proved a damp squib in 1st week all over Maharashtra.
Sarsenapati Hambirrao (Marathi) continued to do well in the second week all over Maharashtra.
Dharmaveer (Marathi) did well in the fourth week too, in Maharashtra.
Kahevatlal Parivar (Gujarati) continued to score in the fifth week too, in Gujarat.
