This week’s AN ACTION HERO seems to have faced rejection from the public right from the word ‘go’. It opened to dismal houses all over.
Bhediya met with a mixed response. Its dull collections in the first week shocked the trade. The overwhelming success of Drishyam 2 seems to have proved the major opposition to Bhediya as the former film in its second week collected far better than the latter in its first week! The creature comedy film netted Rs. 6.85 crore on the opening day. Collections grew on Saturday (Rs. 8.75 crore) as well as Sunday (Rs. 10.80 crore) but the jump was not up to the mark. After a dull first weekend of Rs. 26.40 crore, collections for the weekdays, of course, were way below the mark: Monday – Rs. 3.25 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 3 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 2.65 crore, Thursday – Rs. 2.30 crore. In this way, the total for the weekdays was an unimpressive Rs. 11.20 crore, taking the first week’s total to Rs. 37.60 crore.
Bal Naren met with a disastrous fate in 1st week in both, Delhi-U.P and East Punjab.
Kora Kagazz bombed miserably in the first week all over.
Drishyam 2 in 2nd week outshone Bhediya in 1st week, that too, very markedly. The second weekend started with a take of Rs. 7.87 crore. Collections on Saturday almost doubled so that the day closed at Rs. 14.05 crore. The jump on Sunday was also quite pronounced. It netted Rs. 17.32 crore, taking its total for the second weekend to Rs. 39.24 crore. Collections for the weekdays were no less impressive: Monday – Rs. 5.43 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 5.15 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 4.68 crore, Thursday – Rs. 4.31 crore. Therefore, the total for the weekdays was an impressive Rs. 19.57 crore. Total for 2nd week: Rs. 58.81 crore. Grand total for 2 weeks: Rs. 163.47 crore. Having crossed the Rs. 150-crore mark, the suspense sequel is all set to join the Rs. 200-crore club in the fourth week! Overseas, it is turning out to be one of the best Ajay Devgan starrers ever! It grossed an equivalent of Rs. 13.40 crore in 2nd week abroad, taking its two-week total to Rs. 42.22 crore. (The first week’s gross total was Rs. 28.82 crore, and not Rs. 28.60 crore, as mentioned in this column last week.)
Uunchai could add only Rs. 2.20 crore to its kitty in the third weekend and another Rs.1.20 crore in the weekdays. Total for 3rd week: Rs. 3.40 crore. Grand total for 3 weeks: Rs. 29.82 crore.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (dubbed and original English versions) is in its last lap. It netted approximately Rs. 3.80 crore in its third week. Grand total for 3 weeks: Rs. 66.30 crore.
Jeta (Marathi) flopped badly in 1st week all over Maharashtra.
