The Bhayander (Bombay) police on January 29 arrested nine Bajrang Dal activists who destroyed banners of Pathaan earlier that day at Maxus multiplex, Bhayander West. A search was launched for the other 15-20 men.
At around 4 p.m., a mob armed with lathis reached the multiplex in the Maxus mall, where the film was being screened, and began damaging the posters and banners of the film placed in glass showcases, shouting ‘Jai Shri Ram’ slogans. They did not enter the cinema. While the screening continued, police reached the mall and arrested a few protestors. The others fled the scene. Heavy police bandobast was made outside the multiplex after the incident.
The Bajrang Dal had earlier protested against the film in Gujarat, saying that it was anti-Hindu.
