Sunshine Pictures Pvt. Ltd., the producers of The Kerala Story, have expressed grave concern over the illegal ban on their film in West Bengal continuing despite the Supreme Court order of May 18, calling the ban illegal.
The press release of Sunshine Pictures says: “It is absolutely shocking that after the judgement, there is a complete illegal ban imposed in theatres in Bengal by the state authorities. The theatre owners are getting threat calls from the administration that if they open the booking station, their theatre won’t be secure. Theatre owners are threatened so they are not able to come out in the open. They are not able to give any statement to this effect. However, they want to run the film. But they are not allowed. This is a blatant violation of Supreme Court orders. We are shocked at these people who are the champions of democracy. Both states, West Bengal and TN, are actually behaving in the most undemocratic way and it’s shameful to stop the film after a Supreme Court order.”
