More than seven years after TV actress Pratyusha Banerjee allegedly committed suicide on April 1, 2016, her parents have opposed the discharge plea submitted by her then partner, Rahul Raj Singh, alleging that their daughter was killed. Rahul has been accused of abetting the suicide.
In a hand-written plea addressed to the public prosecutor last week, the plea by Pratyusha’s parents, then 24 years old, said, “We have reasons to believe that the accused looted ur everything and killed our beloved daughter, Pratyusha, through his pre-planned murder.” The reply urged the court to order re-investigation into the case.
In his discharge plea, Rahul Raj Singh said, he and Pratyusha were in love and were to get married in December 2016. He added that her parents blew Pratyusha’s money and their constant interference had deeply disturbed and frustrated her. He also said, he tried to stop her from giving huge money to her parents, which angered them.
The court will hear the arguments on the discharge plea on July 7. The hearing on the discharge application has been expedited by the Bombay high court as it is pending since 2018.
A case was registered against Rahul on April 3, 2016, following a complaint by Pratyusha’s parents. He was granted anticipatory bail and in 2018, a chargesheet was submitted against him.
