‘VIRAKT’ REVIEW | 26 January, 2024

Released last week in U.P. (in Lucknow), Saarthak Entertainment’s Virakt (UA) is the story of a 45-year-old man who lives all alone. He suffers from insomnia. Not just that, he also has troubled dreams at night, where a widow, Janki, is taking him away. Is he able to solve the mystery of the frightening dreams?

Suryanand Suryakar’s story has some thrill element but it is so thin that it doesn’t really impress the viewers. S.K. Prasad’s screenplay is not very gripping. The drama unfolds on the screen without really involving the audience. As a result, the viewers keep watching the proceedings with almost no sense of participation. S.K. Prasad’s dialogues are ordinary.

Vaibhav Singh is not very impressive. Kshitij Singh is just about average as Akash. Elisha Singh does an ordinary job as Mahi. Khushi Singh is okay as Janki. Vijay Gupta provides weak support. Prafull Tripathi lends routine support as Raj Narayan Shukla. Puja Raman is so-so in the role of Gayatri Devi. Anuj Srivastava is passable as Chandan. Sanjana Mishra lends dull support as Shabnam. Arshad Khan, Devendra Singh Bhadauria, Dr. Dewashish Shukla, Rony Singh, Arif Khan, Shailendra Singh, Murlidhar Ahuja, Nighat Khan, Krishn Kumar Verma, Anurag Sharma, Santosh, Rajnish Gupta, Harsh Singh, Dolly Gupta and Kamlendra Raj are barely passable.

S.K. Prasad’s direction is below the mark. Music (by Rahul Baksariya, Abhishek Pandey and Ommie) is below the mark. Lyrics (Suryanand Suryakar, Shaharyar Jalalpuri and Brajesh Sharma) pass muster. Nikhilesh Srivastava and Ankit Mishra’s cinematography is functional. The film is ordinary in all the other departments or, perhaps, not even that.

On the whole, Virakt is a flop fare.
