NATIONAL FILM AWARDS 2024 ANNOUNCED: MAMMOOTTY, KARTIK AARYAN, YAMI GAUTAM BAG BEST ACTOR AWARDS | 19 July, 2026

The film jury was chaired by Malayalam filmmaker Jayaraj who announced the awards for films certified between January 1, 2024 and December 31, 2024.

Rajkumar Periasamy won the award for the best director for Amaran (Tamil). Kalki 2898 AD (Telugu) was adjudged the best feature film providing wholesome entertainment. T-Series and Nidhi Hiranandani’s Srikanth won the award for the best Hindi film while Captain Miller (Tamil) was announced as the best film promoting national, social and environmental values.

While Sanjay Mishra bagged the award for the best supporting actor for his performance in Bhakshak, Ropashree Varkady (Mithya; Kannada) and Sachana Namidass (Telugu film Maharaja) won the award for the best supporting actress.

Actor and debut-making director Randeep Hooda’s Swatantrya Veer Savarkar got the award for the best debut film of a director. 35 Chinna Katha Kaadu (Telugu) was adjudged the best children’s film. The award for the best child artiste was bagged by five: Riddhiman Banerjee, Tapomoy Deb, Gitashree Chakraborty (all three for Bengali film Onko Ki Kothin), Arundev Pothula (for Telugu film 35 Chinna Katha Kaadu), and Athish S Shetty (for Kannada film Mithya).

The award for the best screenplay (original) went to Sukumar for Pushpa: The Rule Part 2 (Telugu). The best screenplay (adapted) award went to Yogesh Deshpande (Swargandharva Sudhir Phadke; Marathi). Venky Atluri won the award for the best dialogues for Telugu film Lucky Baskhar. GV Prakash bagged the award for the best background music for his score in Amaran (Tamil). Manoj Muntashir was adjudged the best lyricist for Maidan. While the best male playback singer’s award went to Abhay Jodhpurkar for Gharat Ganpati from Navasachi Gauri Mazi (Marathi), the award for the best female playback singer went to Vaikom Vijayalakshmi for Angu Vaana Konilu from ARM (Malyalam). Vijay A. Ganguly was adjudged the best choreographer for his work in Stree 2.

Shehnad Jalal won the award for the best cinematography for Malayalam film Bramayugam. Anl Arasu bagged the award for best action director for Maharaja (Telugu). The award for the best editing went to R. Kalaivannan for Amaran (Tamil). Nitin Zihani Choudhary bagged the award for the best production design for Kalki 2898 AD (Telugu).

The best costume design award went to Deepali Noor and Sheetal Sharma for Pushpa: The Rule Part 2 (Telugu). The award for the best make-up artiste went to P. Ravi Kumar for Committee Kurrollu (Telugu). Manas Choudhury bagged the award for the best sound design for Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3.

Tamil film actor-filmmaker Dhanush got a special mention for his performance in the historical actioner Captain Miller. Special mention of Suren G. was also made, for Tamil film Meiyazhagan.

The awards for films in regional langauages went to: Assamese film: Juiphool. Bengali film: Chalchitra Ekhon. Oriya: Lahari. Tamil: Raayan. Telugu: Committee Kurrollu. Kannada: Mithya. Malayalam: Feminichi Fathima. Marathi: Mukkam Post Bombilwadi. Garhwali: Dholi. Gujarati: Abhishek Jain’s Maaran. Manipuri: Sunita. Konakani: Mog Asum. Tulu: IMBU.

In the non-feature film category, the following were the winners:

Bhangaar (Marathi and English) was adjudged the best non-feature film. Best debut film of a director – Angen (Santhali). Kamlesh Mishra’s short film, Kakori, was given the award for the best biographical/historical reconstruction/compilation film. The best arts/culture film award went to Main Nida. The award for the best animation film went to Touched As Water. Piplantri: A Tale Of Eco Feminism (Hindi, Rajasthani and English) won the award for the best film promoting social and environmental values. Ram-Nami won the award for the best documentary. Hamsafar (Marathi) was adjudged the best short film (up to 30 minutes).
