‘JUGJUGG JEEYO’ DISAPPOINTS

Both the new releases of this week failed to take even average starts. RASHTRA KAVACH OM netted Rs. 1.50 crore on the first day while ROCKETRY: THE NAMBI EFFECT struggled to touch the crore mark but without success. While the former did somewhat better in single-screen cinemas, the latter film got its footfalls in high-end multiplexes.

The first weekend, therefore, closed at Rs. 36.93 crore which may have been almost four times the first day’s total but was still below the mark. Collections increased to Rs. 91 lakh on Saturday, and further to Rs. 1.22 crore on Sunday. Hence the total for the second weekend was an impressive Rs. 2.62 crore. Dear Dia proved disastrous in the first week.

Ghode Ko Jalebi Khilane Le Ja Riya Hoon met with a horrific state in the first week.

777 Charlie (dubbed) may have received critical acclaim but it failed to make a mark in the first week, due mainly to lack of awareness about the film. ‘BHOOL BHULAIYAA 2’ RULES; ‘SAMRAT PRITHVIRAJ’ FACES DEFEAT IN BOX-OFFICE RACE

The opening of JANHIT MEIN JAARI and Hollywood’s JURASSIC WORLD: DOMINION, both the new releases of this week, was not up to the mark. JANHIT, of course, took a horrifyingly poor start. Its shows had to be cancelled at some places in spite of the cap of Rs. 100 only, on ticket prices in many multiplexes and single-screen cinemas as a move to boost attendance.

Samrat Prithviraj did reasonably well on Saturday and Sunday after an average start on Friday, but ultimately lost the box-office battle as collections dropped quite markedly post the weekend. More than the merits, the fair collections in the first weekend were because of the publicity the film garnered due to it being granted tax-exemption by three state governments. Another state (Gujarat) government followed suit during the week but collections are dull now, even after the tax-exemption. The first day closed at Rs. 10.70 crore, Collections picked up by less than 20% on Saturday so that the day closed at Rs. 12.60 crore. The figure of net collections on Sunday was Rs. 16.10 crore, implying a jump of around 30% over the previous day’s collections. Considering that the start itself was not too impressive, the increase in collections on days 2 and 3 was far from impressive. The first weekend’s dull total of Rs. 39.40 crore gave an indication of the scenario that was going to unfold during the weekdays. Collections were as follows: Monday – Rs. 5 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 4.25 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 3.60 crore, Thursday – Rs. 2.80 crore. In this way, the total for the weekdays was a dull Rs. 15.65 crore. Therefore, the first week closed at Rs. 55.05 crore.

Major could not do much in its first week, mainly because of a new hero (for the Hindi-speaking audience) and lack of promotion of the film. It started with a take of Rs. 1.10 crore on day 1. Collections increased to Rs. 1.51 crore on Saturday, and further to Rs. 2.05 crore on Sunday, taking the first weekend’s total to Rs. 4.66 crore. Collections during the weekdays were: Monday – Rs. 0.80 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 0.75 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 0.75 crore, Thursday – Rs. 0.55 crore. Therefore, the total for the weekdays was Rs. 2.85 crore. First week’s total: Rs. 7.51 crore.

Vikram Hit List (Hindi dubbed version of Tamil Vikram) could not do anything substantial in the first week. Although the original Tamil film did roaring business in the first week in Tamil Nadu as well as Overseas, the Hindi dubbed version remained a non-starter. It netted only Rs. 0.32 crore on the first day. Collections on Saturday and Sunday were Rs. 0.71 crore and Rs. 1.14 crore respectively. As a result, the first weekend closed at a pathetic Rs. 2.17 crore. Collections for the weekdays were even more miserable: Monday – Rs. 0.51 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 0.57 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 0.56 crore, Thursday – Rs. 0.43 crore. In this way, the total for the weekdays was a terrible Rs. 2.07 crore. First week’s total: Rs. 4.24 crore only!

Top Gun: Maverick (dubbed and original English version) did fair business in 2nd week. Actually, the Hindi dubbed version fared poorly whereas the original English version continued to shine at the ticket windows.

Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 continued its rule over the box-office and was, in a manner of speaking, unstoppable in its third week too, in spite of the release of Samrat Prithviraj. It crossed the Rs. 150-crore mark in the third weekend itself. Its third weekend started with a take of Rs. 2.81 crore. Collections on Saturday jumped to Rs. 4.55 crore, and on Sunday to Rs. 5.71 crore. Therefore, the total for the third weekend was an impressive Rs. 13.07 crore. Its total for 17 days was Rs. 155.02 crore. Collections for the weekdays were also quite good: Monday – Rs. 2.25 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 2.16 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 2.11 crore, Thursday – Rs. 1.81 crore. Its total for the weekdays was, therefore, Rs. 8.33 crore. Total for third week: Rs. 21.40 crore. Grand total for 3 weeks: Rs. 163.35 crore.

Irsal (Marathi) fared miserably in the first week in Maharashtra.

Zollywood (Marathi) proved a damp squib in 1st week all over Maharashtra.

Sarsenapati Hambirrao (Marathi) continued to do well in the second week all over Maharashtra.

Dharmaveer (Marathi) did well in the fourth week too, in Maharashtra.

Kahevatlal Parivar (Gujarati) continued to score in the fifth week too, in Gujarat.

NO ROYAL START FOR ‘PRITHVIRAJ’, ‘ANEK’ FLOPS, ‘BHOOL BHULAIYAA 2’ RULES!

In spite of the hype generated due to the film being seen by the home minister and some chief ministers and it being granted tax exemption in three states, SAMRAT PRITHVIRAJ could not take a flying start. Its first day’s net collection total is still awaited, it seems to be around Rs. 10.50 to Rs. 10.75 crore.

Anek has been rejected by the audience. Considering that it starred Ayushmann Khurrana and was made with all the resources at its command, it neither took a respectable initial nor did its collections pick up during the entire first week. After a dismal first weekend of Rs. 5.50 crore, it added just Rs. 1 crore during the weekdays. Therefore, the first week’s total was a paltry Rs. 6.50 crore.

Dehati Disco was a non-starter in the first week. The public simply didn’t go to watch it.

3 Shyaane met with a disastrous fate in its first week.

Haemolymph bombed miserably in 1st week all over.

Love In Ukraine found no takers in the first week.

Top Gun: Maverick (dubbed and original English versions) did well in the first weekend, after which collections dropped markedly. The original English version fared better than the dubbed versions.

Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 ruled people’s hearts and hence the box-office too in its second week. It joined the Rs. 100-crore club on the ninth day. The second weekend started with a take of Rs. 6.52 crore on Friday. The jump in collections on Saturday was more than 70%! After a second-day total of Rs. 11.35 crore, the film netted Rs. 12.77 crore on Sunday. Therefore, its second weekend closed at a fantastic Rs. 30.64 crore. Collections on the weekdays were as follows: Monday – Rs. 5.55 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 4.85 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 4.45 crore, Thursday – Rs. 4.21 crore. In this way, the total for the weekdays was Rs. 19.06 crore. Hence the second week closed at Rs. 49.70 crore. Grand total for 2 weeks: Rs. 141.95 crore. It is poised to cross the Rs. 150-crore mark in the third weekend.

Dhaakad, which hardly ran anywhere in 2nd week, has proven to be one of the biggest disasters of recent cinematic history, considering its cast and cost. Reportedly made on a budget of Rs. 70-plus crore, it will not recover even 10% of just its promotion cost (leave alone its cost of production) from theatrical revenues. Other sources of revenue have almost been reduced to nil because of its horrendous performance at the turnstiles.

Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness (dubbed and original English versions) could add Rs. 3 crore to its kitty in its fourth week. Grand total for 4 weeks: Rs. 132.50 crore.

K.G.F. Chapter 2 (dubbed) added Rs. 1 crore to its total in the seventh week. Therefore, its grand total for 7 weeks is Rs. 434.74 crore.

Sarsenapati Hambirrao (Marathi) did well in the first week all over Maharashtra.

Dharmaveer (Marathi) stood its own in the third week too in Maharashtra.

Kahevatlal Parivar (Gujarati) maintained well in 4th week in Gujarat.

‘ANEK’ FAILS TO OPEN WELL, ‘BHOOL BHULAIYAA 2’ DOES IT IN FIRST WEEK!

This week’s ANEK opened to dull houses. The appreciation is also missing. Hollywood film TOP GUN: MAVERICK (dubbed and original English versions) was also a slow starter this week. It netted just about Rs. 2 crore on the opening day (Thursday, May 26).

Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 has done remarkably well in its first week. The horror comedy collected Rs. 14.11 crore on the opening day. After the wonderful start, collections jumped to Rs. 18.34 crore on Saturday. The Sunday figure was an astounding Rs. 23.51 crore, taking the first weekend’s total to a supremely impressive Rs. 55.96 crore. Collections during the weekdays were also excellent: Monday – Rs. 10.75 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 9.56 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 8.71 crore, Thursday – Rs. 7.27 crore. Therefore, the total for the weekdays was a terrific Rs. 36.29 crore. In this way, the first week closed at Rs. 92.25 crore.

Dhaakad has bombed from North to South and East to West. The film is such a resounding flop that it did not collect even Rs. 1 crore on a single day of the first week. The first weekend closed at Rs. 1.60 crore. The film added just Rs. 0.60 crore to its kitty during the weekdays, taking its first week’s total to Rs. 2.20 crore only. Almost the entire cost of production would be a dead loss as recoveries from satellite and digital rights would be miserable after such a horrendous performance at the box-office.

Chitrakut met with a disastrous fate in 1st week.

Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness (dubbed and original English versions) added Rs. 7.10 crore to its kitty in the third week. Grand total for 3 weeks: Rs. 129.50 crore.

With the total for the weekdays being Rs. 1.09 crore, the sixth week’s total was Rs. 2.79 crore. Grand total for 6 weeks: Rs. 433.74 crore.

Marathi film Dharmaveer and Punjabi film Saunkan Saunkne have opened today (May 13) to fantastic houses. The Punjabi film is poised to become a blockbuster.

Mere Desh Ki Dharti could not do anything substantive in the first week because of almost zero awareness about its release. Collections were rather pathetic.

The Conversion bombed miserably in 1st week all over.

Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness (dubbed and original English versions) did well in the first weekend but collections began to drop quite markedly during the weekdays. Still, it managed good collections for the first week and joined the Rs. 100-crore club. The first week started with a Friday total of Rs. 27.75 crore. Collections on Satuday and Sunday were Rs. 26.25 crore and Rs. 25 crore respectively. In this way, the first weekend closed at Rs. 79 crore! Collections for the weekdays were rather dull: Monday – Rs. 0.60 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 0.60 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 0.55 crore, Thursday – Rs. 0.50 crore. ‘K.G.F. CHAPTER 2’ (DUBBED) IN 3RD WEEK OUTDOES NEW RELEASES ‘RUNWAY 34’, ‘HEROPANTI 2’

Runway 34 found very limited favour with the class audience only, because of which collections were on the lower side. It didn’t get any advantage of even the Eid holiday on 3rd May. The first weekend started with a take of only Rs. 2.50 crore. Collections improved on Saturday and even more on Sunday but although the jump was good in percentage terms, it wasn’t big enough in real terms because the starting point was so low. Saturday closed at Rs. 4.25 crore while the total for Sunday was Rs. 5.50 crore. In this way, the first weekend’s total was Rs. 12.25 crore. Collections during the weekdays were rather low, including on Eid day (Tuesday). The low collections on the days of the weekend and again on Eid day conclusively underlined the fact that the film had appealed to only a section of the audience rather than universally. The collections for the weekdays were: Monday – Rs. 2.15 crore, Tuesday (Eid) – Rs. 3.50 crore (less than collections on Saturday and on Sunday), Wednesday (Baasi Eid) – Rs. 2 crore, Thursday – Rs. 1.25 crore. Therefore, the total for the weekdays was only Rs. 8.90 crore. Total for 1st week: Rs. 21.15 crore only.

Heropanti 2 also fared poorly. The action film also got very little advantage of the Eid holiday on 3rd May. The first weekend commenced with a take of Rs. 6.25 crore which included tickets bought by the concerned people to give the film an artificial boost. Collections on Saturday totalled Rs. 4.75 crore while the total for Sunday was a poor Rs. 3.75 crore. In this way, the first weekend closed at Rs. 14.75 crore. While the attendance in cinemas declined dramatically on the weekdays, even the Eid festival on Tuesday did not see collections taking a perceptible jump in real numbers. The day-wise totals for the weekdays: Monday – Rs. 1 crore, Tuesday (Eid) – Rs. 2.50 crore, Wednesday (Baasi Eid) – Rs. 2.15 crore, Thursday – Rs. 1.25 crore. Therefore, the total for the weekdays was a paltry Rs. 6.90 crore. Total for first week: Rs. 21.65 crore.

Jersey crashed in 2nd week everywhere. It added only Rs. 2.50 crore to its kitty in 2nd week. Total for 2 weeks: Rs. 21.70 crore.

K.G.F. Chapter 2 (dubbed) crossed the lifetime business of Dangal, in just three weeks to become the second-biggest Hindi film of all time. It crossed the Rs. 387 crore of Dangal on its 21st day (Wednesday). The Hindi dubbed version will join the Rs. 400-crore club in the fourth weekend. It fared better in its third week than the new releases of last week (in their first weeks)! The third weekend started with a take of Rs. 4.25 crore. Collections on Saturday rose by 70% so that the day closed at Rs. 7.25 crore. Sunday saw the film’s collections take a further jump, to Rs. 9.27 crore. Therefore, the third weekend closed at Rs. 20.77 crore. The total on Monday was Rs. 3.75 crore. Collections on Tuesday shot up to Rs. 9.57 crore on account of the Eid holiday. Baasi Eid helped collections to reach Rs. 8.75 crore on Wednesday. On Wednesday, the film had surpassed the lifetime net collections of Dangal which was, therefore, displaced to the third spot among the all-time top Hindi grossers. The Thursday total was Rs. 6.30 crore. In this way, the total for the weekdays was Rs. 28.37 crore. Total for 3rd week: Rs. 49.14 crore. Grand total for 3 weeks: Rs. 397.95 crore.

Chandramukhi (Marathi) has done well at places in Maharashtra and excellent at others in the state in 1st week.

Sher Shivraj (Marathi) continued to score in the second week too, all over Maharashtra.

‘K.G.F. CHAPTER 2’ (DUBBED) CONTINUES TO RULE IN 2ND WEEK TOO

Jersey could not do much in the first week as the opposition of K.G.F. Chapter 2 (dubbed) proved too much for it and also because it did not find much appreciation. Its performance at the box-office can best be described as disastrous. The first week started with a net collection of only Rs. 3.50 crore. Collections on Saturday rose to Rs. 5 crore only. The increase on Sunday was negligible as the day closed at just Rs. 5.15 crore. With a weekend total of Rs. 13.65 crore, it was clear that the weekdays would be dull. And they were: Monday – Rs. 1.75 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 1.50 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 1.30 crore, Thursday – Rs. 1 crore. Total for the weekdays was, therefore, Rs. 5.55 crore. Total for 1st week: Rs. 19.20 crore.

Operation Romeo bombed miserably in 1st week due to lack of face value and promotion.

K.G.F. Chapter 2 (dubbed) continued its victory march in the second week too. After netting Rs. 53.95 crore (not Rs. 53 crore) on the opening day (Thursday), and Rs. 268.63 crore (not Rs. 259 crore) in the first 8-day week, it started the second week with a take of Rs. 11.56 crore on Friday. Collections on Saturday jumped almost 60%, to Rs. 18.25 crore. The increase on Sunday over Saturday’s collections was a little less than 25% so that the day closed at Rs. 22.68 crore. Therefore, the total for the second weekend was an amazing Rs. 52.49 crore. Collections on the weekdays were as follows: Monday – Rs. 8.28 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 7.48 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 6.25 crore, Thursday – Rs. 5.68 crore. In this way, the total for the weekdays was Rs. 27.69 crore. Hence the total for the second week was a phenomenal Rs. 80.18 crore. Grand total for 2 weeks: Rs. 348.81 crore. It is just Rs. 39 crore short of the lifetime total of Dangal which is the film with the highest all-India lifetime collections after Bahubali 2: The Conclusion. Going by the trend, the film may surpass the lifetime total of Dangal by the end of the third week, to become the second-highest grosser of all time.

Sher Shivraj (Marathi) has done very well in the first week in Maharashtra.
