ASSAMESE FILM ‘SRI RAGHUPATI’ HITS THE BULL’S EYE | 9 June, 2023

Sri Raghupati, an Assamese film released in Assam in the middle of the week gone by, is creating havoc at the ticket windows. The film opened only on Monday (June 5) as one of the two producers had obtained a stay on May 31 on its release on June 2. The case was settled out of court and the film finally made its way to the cinemas on Monday afternoon.

The Ravi Sarma starrer, which is also scripted by him, netted Rs. 17 lakh on the first day (half day). Since the reports were fantastic, many cinemas in night shows on Monday were packed to capacity. Collections on Tuesday went up to Rs. 38.80 lakh. Wednesday saw a further jump (Rs. 41.70 lakh) in collections, and Thursday closed at Rs. 43 lakh. In this way, the first week of just three-and-a-half days closed at more than Rs. 1.40 crore. It is poised to become one of the biggest blockbusters of Assamese cinema, if not the biggest. The film is directed by Suvrat Kakoty.

Producer Dhritimaan Sarma dragged the other producer of the film (Salen Kumar Sarma) to the court of additional district judge no. 3 Kamrup (M), Guwahati. He alleged that Salen Kumar had changed the name of the banner from Locus Creative Production to Maniratna Entertainment and was planning to release the film under the new banner. He prayed for an injunction against the release. The court granted the same and hence the film could not be released on June 2. However, the industry association people as well as the administration intervened and had the matter settled amicably out of court.
