The Indian Motion Picture Producers’ Association on 2nd August requested Gujarat chief minister Bhupendra Patel to increase the maximum amount of subsidy granted to Gujarati films from Rs. 75 lakh to Rs. 1.25 crore. In a letter to the CM, it also pointed out that more than 80 films were waiting in queue to be screened for the granting of subsidy. Although screenings are to be held every three months, not a single screening has been held for one-and-a-half years, the letter added.
The IMPPA has also drawn the chief minister’s attention to the fact that delayed films were not being considered for the purpose of subsidy despite the state government’s decision to overlook delays caused due to the coronavirus lockdowns. It has also requested the government to exempt Gujarati films from SGST.
