Thousands of fans of Rajinikanth held a rally in Madras to urge the superstar to reconsider his decision and take the plunge into politics. The rally was organised without the consent of Rajinikanth’s party, Rajini Makkal Mandram, and against its advice.
Slogans to coax Rajinikanth to enter politics rent the air at the rally which lasted a few hours. On December 29, 2020, Rajinikanth had made it clear that he would not be launching a political party to enter electoral politics, citing his health condition as the reason. Although police permission was granted for only 200 participants in the rally, a few thousand persons attended.
