A vacation bench of the Bombay high court earlier this week suspended a four-month sentence and granted producer Anjum Rizvi bail in a contempt case. YT Capital had filed the contempt petition after Rizvi failed to comply with court orders to pay the former its dues.
Rizvi and YT Capital filed consent terms before the vacation bench after Rizvi agreed to pay YT Capital Rs. 38 lakh. The high court, after seeing a copy of the demand draft for Rs. 38 lakh, said, “The execution of punishment is suspended and the appellant is directed to be released on bail on PR bond of a sum of Rs. 1 lakh with cash security in like amount.” The bail plea was filed by Rizvi, which came up for hearing before the vacation bench of Justices S.K. Shinde and Sarang Kotwal on 22nd May. Earlier this month, the high court had sentenced Anjum Rizvi to four months’ imprisonment after holding him guilty of contempt of court for repeated breach of his undertaking to pay YT Capital, including most recently that the two cheques dated April 29 and May 6, delivered by him on April 25, would be honoured. Justice Gautam Patel on 3rd May sent him to prison. Rizvi filed a bail appeal while serving jail time.
