The Gujarat high court is likely to deliver its judgement in the Maharaj case today (June 20). Eight members of the Pushtimarg sect had last week filed a petition against the release of the film on the Netflix after they came across articles in the media about the film, based on a libel case of 1862, which was heard and decided by a British judge. The petition stated that the film would hurt the sentiments of members of the sect.
The high court heard the respondents in the matter — Yash Raj Films and Netflix — and the petitioners on June 18 and extended the interim stay by a day. The matter was further heard on June 19 when YRF and Netflix asked the judge to view the film before passing the final order. The judgement is likely to be passed today.
Maharaj was slated to start streaming on the OTT platform from June 14.
