GANGSTER’S DAUGHTER FILES CASE TO STOP FILM’S RELEASE | 3 February, 2026

The daughter of underworld figure Hussain ‘Ustara’ Shaikh on February 2 sought a permanent injunction against the release of Sajid Nadiadwala’s O’Romeo, claiming that the film was an unauthorised biopic of her late father and portrayed his life falsely.

Sanober Shaikh has filed a civil suit against Sajid, the film’s director, Vishal Bhardwaj, and journalist-author Hussain Zaidi before the civil court, which will hear the matter on February 6. The film stars Shahid Kapoor in the role of Ustara. It is based on Zaidi’s book, Mafia Queens Of Mumbai.

The plaintiff has alleged that the film’s theme is entirely based on her father who has been “portrayed as a gangster”. She said, she feared, the film’s release would cause “irreparable injury” to her and also to her children. Sanober Shaikh has said that her father contributed in preventing crimes across India, particularly in Bombay, and helped police and intelligence sleuths in tackling criminals.

Both, Sajid Nadiadwala and Vishal Bhardwaj, have refuted her claims, asserting that the film is purely a work of “fiction”.
