The Pune police have directed that singer-rapper Yo Yo Honey Singh will not be allowed to perform songs promoting alcohol, drugs or use of weapons during his concert on April 18. The directive follows a letter by district child protection officer Mangesh Chavan, who mentioned that some of Honey Singh’s songs glorified substance use and gun culture, which could allegedly adversely impact children. Chavan urged the police to ensure that no “vulgar language” was used during the performance in Pune.
The concert is slated to be held at Mahalaxmi Lawns on the Pune-Ahilyanagar Road.
Chavan said, he approached the police following a complaint by a Chandigarh-based professor, Punditrao Dharenavar. The professor had gone to court in 2016 against songs that glorified alcohol, drugs and weapons.
