Percept Communications’ Harindra Singh is a suspect in the Alibaug senior citizens weed case. The Raigad police have demanded explanation from Harindra Singh about where he got marijuana from after booking him for smoking cannabis at a party at Alibaug (near Bombay) on June 14. This comes days after his son, Karan Singh, was booked by the Tardeo police in Bombay in connection with the death of a concertgoer at the NSCI Dome, Worli.
The Raigad police had raided a posh gated colony in Saral village and booked Singh and another person for allegedly consuming cannabis. Police sources said, they suspect the substance was brought and supplied by Harindra Singh himself. Police sources said that the initial case was for consumption and notices to that effect were issued. Investigations have begun to establish the full supply chain and possible wider involvement of Harindra Singh. Cases were registered at Mandwa Coastal police station under sections 8(c), 20(b) and 27 of the NDPS Act. Although the seized quantity of cannabis falls under personal consumption, police said, they were probing Harindra Singh’s possible role as a supplier.
Singh had been detained by the Dubai police in 2007 for allegedly possessing suspected contraband substance before the authorities withdrew the charges and released him.
Just a week earlier, Harindra’s son, Karan Singh, was booked on June 8 under sections 106 (causing death by negligence) and 289 (negligent conduct with respect to machinery) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) by the Tardeo police in Bombay following the death of a Mahim (Bombay) resident during a concert. The Tardeo police said, 28-year-old Rahul Gangurde died after attending the event while a woman fell unconscious. It was alleged that the company failed to properly manage the event as there was medical negligence and there were ventilation-related issues at the venue too.
At present, the police have not officially established any connection between the Raigad NDPS case, the Tardeo FIR or any alleged corporate links.
