In a unique India-Germany cinematic collaboration, Marathi filmmaker Gaurav Thakur is taking his international survival thriller, The Bombay Blood, to the audience in Germany, bringing together an Indian creative vision, German actors and a global story.
Shot extensively in Bremen, Germany, the film features German film actors Dirk Böhling, Philipp Oliver Baumgarten and Katrin Ingendoh, with Marathi film actor Kashyap Parulekar. It is produced by Neel Kothari and Daniel E. Pajak. Around 95% of the film is in English while Marathi remains an integral part of the protagonist’s identity and emotional journey. The film was completed in nine months.
The film is set to have its Germany screening on August 20, marking an important milestone for an independent Indian production that has created an international-scale film with a relatively modest budget. The screening brings the German cast and Indian filmmaker together on German soil, making the event as much a celebration of cinema as it is of the India-Germany collaboration.
At its core, The Bombay Blood follows Keshav, an Indian folk performer who travels to Germany and unexpectedly finds himself at the centre of a deadly global phenomenon. His rare Bombay Blood Group becomes the potential key to humanity’s survival, setting off a high-stakes pursuit.
Following its Germany screening on August 20, The Bombay Blood will begin its India chapter, bringing the film back to the country from where its creative journey began. Director Gaurav Thakur and the film’s German actors will travel to India, taking the India-Germany collaboration directly to Indian audience.
