Veteran Gujarati film director Subhash J. Shah passed away today (11th October) at his residence in Bombay following a heart attack. He was 72 and is survived by his wife and two sons. The funeral will begin tomorrow (12th) at 10.30 a.m. from his residence at 508, Saideep 1, near Swami Vivekananda School, opposite Lav Kush Towers, Sindhi Society, Chembur, Bombay-71.
Subhash Shah was an extremely soft-spoken person. He was an excellent director and an equally good human being. Subhash Shah had directed around 50 films in Gujarati and three television serials. He had also made a Hindi film, Yeh Kaisi Hai Aashiqui. Among his hit films were Vat Vachan Ne Ver, Dodh Daya, Raj Kunvar, Lohi Bhini Chundadi, Jode Rehjo Raj, Laadi Lakhni Saybo Sava Lakhno, Laaju Lakhan, Tahuke Saajan Sambhare, Raj Rajvan, Radhiyali Raat, Oonchi Medi Na Ooncha Mol, Saajan Ne Sathware (made for Film Information founder-editor Ramraj Nahta) and Aangane Vaage Ruda Dhol.
He had been honoured with the award for best direction a number of times by the Gujarat state government.
