After celebrated car designer Dilip Chhabria, it is the turn of his son, Bonito, to be arrested in the Kapil Sharma case. Bonito was called by the Bombay crime branch on 24th September for questioning, after his name cropped up during the probe. He was arrested consequently. The crime branch produced Bonito before a court which sent him to judicial custody.
The case lodged by stand-up comedian and actor Kapil Sharma relates to cheating of over Rs. 5 crore. The crime intelligence unit (CIU) had earlier this year filed a 400-page chargesheet against Dilip Chhabria in the same case. Dilip is accused of taking more than Rs. 5 crore from Kapil to design a make-up van which was never delivered. Sharma lodged a complaint with the police in January this year. He told the police that between May 2017 and May 2018, he paid Rs. 5.3 crore to Dilip Chhabria for the van but the latter demanded an additional Rs. 40 lakh towards GST, which, too, he paid. Kapil added that he was then sent a parking bill of the vehicle despite it not being ready. That’s when Kapil approached the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) and submitted a complaint.
The EOW conducted a preliminary inquiry, after which the case was transferred to the CIU which registered an FIR.
