HC JUNKS PLEAS AGAINST ‘GANGUBAI KATHIAWADI’ | 24 February, 2022

The Bombay high court on February 23 dismissed two petitions and disposed of one filed against Gangubai Kathiawadi. The petitions dismissed were filed by Kamathipura (Bombay) MLA Amin Patel and local resident Shraddha Surve and they were against the use of words ‘Kamathipura’ and ‘Kathiawadi’ in the film.

The court took exception to the petitions being filed at the last minute and noted that no one had raised any objections to the CBFC certificate.

A petition filed by Hiten Mehta was disposed of after the bench was informed that it was based on a wrong notion. Advocate Ashok Saraogi, appearing for Hiren Mehta, argued that in one scene, the main character goes to the dentist and the dialogue mentions “China”. The counsel for the producer explained that the area shown in the scene actually has Chinese dentists.
