Almost two weeks after Bhojpuri film actress Akanksha Dubey was found dead in a hotel room in Varanasi, her boyfriend, Bhojpuri film singer Samar Singh, was arrested from Ghaziabad on April 7. A red corner notice had been issued against Samar and his brother, Sanjay Singh.
Samar was accused by Akanksha’s mother of abetting her suicide. She also named Sanjay as another accused in her complaint. They were on the run since her demise. Akanksha’s mother claimed that Samar made her daughter work for him but never paid her a single naya paisa. She added that he used to beat her whenever she asked him for payment which, according to the mother, amounted to Rs. 3 crore. The mother also said in her complaint that Samar used to harass her whenever she tried to work with other artistes.
Akanksha was found hanging inside a hotel room in Varanasi on March 26.
