‘UMBRELLA’ (MARATHI) REVIEW | 9 June, 2023

Swarnad Creation, Scinemasters Entertainment and Blue Umbrella Entertainments’ Umbrella (Marathi) is the story of the transformative power of love. It is set in a village. A father opposes his daughter’s choice of a life partner, due to societal expectations. But love ultimately triumphs because the father eventually overcomes his reservations and blesses the marriage.

Manoj Vishe has penned a routine story and screenplay, which fail to convey anything new. The drama, therefore, does not sustain the interest of the viewers for long. Manoj Vishe’s dialogues are alright.

Hemal Ingale does a fair job as Ashwini Patil. Abhishek Sethiya is so-so as Abhijit. Arun Nalawade performs ably as Ashwini’s father. Suhita Thatte makes her mark as Mai. Milind Dastane has his moments as Appa. Neha Bam, Kalpesh Patil, Sanika Banaraswale and Paritosh Pradhan provide average support.

Manoj Vishe’s direction is below the mark. Santosh Mulekar’s music and background music are quite good. Mangesh Kangane’s lyrics are nice. Rahul-Sanjeev’s choreography is just about passable. Camerawork (Sudesh Devan and Tanvir Meer) is good. Atul Kadam’s art direction is of a fine standard. Ashish Mhatre and Apoorva Motiwale-Sahay’s editing could’ve been sharper.

On the whole, Umbrella is a poor fare.

Released on 9-6-’23 at Cinepolis Thane (daily 1 show) and other cinemas of Bombay thru Filmastra Studios. Publicity & opening: poor.
