The Delhi high court on July 28 dismissed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) seeking action against Sukesh Chandrasekhar, an accused in a money laundering case, for making public his letters talking about his relationship with actresses Jacqueline Fernandez, Nora Fatehi and Chahat Khanna. A division bench comprising Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma and Justice Sanjeev Narula said that the PIL filed by Nishant Singh was done merely for publicity and shall be dismissed with costs, stating that the petition was based on vague and baseless allegations.
The petitioner claimed that he was one of the hardcore fans of these actresses, and Chandrasekhar’s letters and allegations had hurt his sentiments as well as the sentiments of crores of others. He alleged that “the Central and state governments connived in this case, which has led to outraging the modesty of the actors” and that he was aggrieved by the “derogatory” letters written to Fernandez and Fatehi.
The petitioner had even sought action against government authorities. Petitioner Singh claimed, “Chandrasekhar’s false public love stories were heavily impacting on the psychology of our teenagers, and his public antics needed to be stopped immediately.”
