‘BOYZ 4’ (MARATHI) REVIEW | 20 October, 2023

L.V. Shinde Group, Everest Entertainment, Ekvira Productions Pvt. Ltd. and Supreme Motion Pictures Pvt. Ltd.’s Boyz 4 (Marathi; A) is the fourth in the Boyz series.

Dhungya (Parth Bhalerao), Dhairya (Pratik Lad) and Kabir (Sumant Shinde) are friends studying in Std. XII. Although Dhairya and Dhungya copy in the examinations from Kabir, they top the results, much to the disappointment of Kabir. Anyway, Kabir goes away to London and challenges his two friends to meet him in London. Frankly, the two friends have actually turned down an offer to go to London in the ‘Culture Exchange’ programme of their college. Anyway, accepting Kabir’s challenge, they both now go to London under the guise of taking Naru (Gaurav More) there for treatment for his gay behaviour. The fact is that Naru is not gay but is only pretending to be one, to spite his father, Madan (Girish Kulkarni).

In London, Dhungya and Dhairya meet Kabir. They also befriend Kunal (Abhinay Berde) there. What happens thereafter?

Hrishikesh Koli has penned an ordinary story and a matching screenplay. The main aim of the writer seems to be to encash on the popularity of the Boyz franchise and to embellish the drama with a lot of double-meaning dialogues. As a result, the drama progresses without really involving the audience because it has nothing substantive or concrete to offer. Yes, Koli’s dialogues are double-meaning and, therefore, will find appreciation.

Parth Bhalerao does a fine job as Dhungya. Pratik Lad is fair as Dhairya. Sumant Shinde is alright in the role of Kabir. Abhinay Berde is okay as Kunal. Girish Kulkarni stands out in a brief role as Madan. Ritika Shrotri is okay as Kabir’s girlfriend, Grace. Gaurav More lends average support as Naru. Jui Bendkhale (as Kunal’s girlfriend, Natasha), Ritooja Shinde (as Prof. Shefali), Nikhil Bane (as Naru’s cousin, Kumar) and Yatin Karyekar (as the college principal) lend the needed support.

Vishal Sakharam Devrukhkar’s direction is so-so. Avadhoot Gupte’s music is fair but a hit music score would’ve helped a great deal. Lyrics (by Avadhoot Gupte, Ganesh Shinde and Hrishikesh Koli) are average. Rahul Thombare’s choreography is functional. Anurag Godbole’s background music passes muster. Yogesh M. Koli’s camerawork is alright. Pradyumna Kumar Swain’s action and stunt scenes are ordinary. Satish Gawali’s sets are okay. Editing (Gurunath Patil and Mahesh Killekar) ought to have been sharper.

On the whole, Boyz 4 is too ordinary to make a mark at the box-office.

Released on 20-10-’23 at Jai Hind Mukta A2 (daily 2 shows) and other cinemas of Bombay thru Panorama Studios. Publicity: fair. Opening: dull.
