KANGANA, SISTER FACE INQUIRY IN ‘COMMUNAL REMARK’ COMPLAINT | 30 October, 2020

The Andheri magistrate court in Bombay yesterday (29th October) directed the police to conduct an inquiry after lawyer Ali Kaashif Deshmukh submitted a private complaint alleging that Kangana Ranaut and her sister, Rangoli Chandel, had posted defamatory and hateful statements against the Muslim community.

The court said, “Allegations are based upon the comments of accused on social media platform. Evidence against accused appears to be of electronic nature. Therefore, inquiry at the hands of police is necessary to proceed against the proposed accused. Such inquiry will be helpful to decide roles of the accused.”

Ali Kaashif Deshmukh had submitted that on April 15, Rangoli allegedly posted defamatory statement against a community on her Twitter account. The plea said that her account was subsequently suspended. He accused Kangana of supporting her sister. The plea also said that on April 18, Kangana too posted a short video on her social media platforms, labelling a religious sect as “terrorists”. Deshmukh concluded that the two sisters had misused social media platform to gain cheap publicity and personal gain. He told the court that he approached the police but no action was taken against the sisters.
