‘BABY JOHN’ BOMBS, ‘MUFASA: THE LION KING’ SCORES, ‘PUSHPA: THE RULE PART 2’ (HINDI DUBBED) STILL STRONG

KRAVEN THE HUNTER (dubbed and the original English versions) opened on Wednesday (Jan. 1) but did not reap the advantage of the festive occasion. It collected only 0.80 crore in the first 2 days.

Baby John fared miserably in the first week after a poor debut on Wednesday (December 25). After collecting a total of Rs. 14 crore for two days (Wednesday and Thursday), it netted Rs. 3.50 crore on Friday. Collections increased to Rs. 4 crore on Saturday while the total for Sunday was Rs.3.50 crore. After a weak weekend of only Rs. 11 crore, collections for the weekdays were: Monday – Rs. 2 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 1.75 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 2 crore, Thursday – Rs. 1.25 crore. In this way, the total for the weekdays was a pathetic Rs. 7 crore. Hence the total for the first week was Rs. 18 crore. Grand total for 9 days: Rs. 32 crore only. The film will entail heavy losses.

Barroz (dubbed) turned out to be a disaster in the first week all over.

Vanvaas netted barely Rs. 1 crore in 2nd week. Grand total for 2 weeks: Rs. 4.80 crore.

Marco (dubbed) picked up in 2nd week due to strong mouth publicity. After collecting only Rs. 0.32 crore in the first week, it netted Rs. 2.50 crore in the second weekend, and another Rs. 2 crore during the weekdays. Therefore, the total for 2nd week was Rs. 4.50 crore, a fourteen-fold jump over the first week! Grand total for 2 weeks: Rs. 4.82 crore. The poor start last week and the huge jump in the second week underline two basic principles: poor promotion of and awareness about a film can result in a disastrous initial, and great content can sometimes make up for lack of promotion once the word of mouth gains strength and the film is continued in the cinemas.

Mufasa: The Lion King (animation; dubbed and the original English versions) was quite steady and did well in 2nd week too. The second weekend started with a take of Rs. 5.50 crore. Collections jumped to Rs. 9 crore on Saturday. The figure for Sunday was Rs. 10 crore. After a second weekend total of Rs. 24.50 crore, collections for the weekdays were as follows: Monday – Rs. 4.65 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 5.40 crore, Wednesday (New Year’s day) – Rs. 7.50 crore, Thursday – Rs. 2.20 crore. Hence the total for the weekdays was Rs. 19.75 crore. In other words, the total for 2nd week was Rs. 44.25 crore. Grand total for 2 weeks: Rs. 105 crore.

Pushpa: The Rule Part 2 (Hindi dubbed) continued to be strong in the fourth week too. It joined the Rs. 700-crore club in the fourth weekend itself. It started the 4th weekend with a take of Rs. 6 crore on Friday. Collections increased to Rs. 8 crore on Saturday, and further jumped to Rs. 10.25 crore on Sunday. After a fourth weekend total of Rs. 24.25 crore, its total till Sunday was Rs. 708.50 crore. Its collections for the weekdays were as follows: Monday – Rs. 5.50 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 6.50 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 8.25 crore, Thursday – Rs. 3.50 crore. In this way, the total for the weekdays was Rs. 23.75 crore. Hence the total for 4th week was an amazing Rs. 48 crore. Grand total for 4 weeks: Rs. 732.25 crore.

Moana 2 (animation; dubbed and the original English versions) did fair business in its fifth week. It netted Rs. 1.80 crore in 5th week, taking its grand total for 5 weeks to Rs. 28.35 crore.

Rukhwat (Marathi) bombed at the box-office all over Maharashtra in the first week.
