‘PYAR KE DO NAAM’ REVIEW | 3 May, 2024

Reliance Entertainment and Jocular Entertainments Pvt. Ltd.’s Pyar Ke Do Naam (UA) is a love story of a boy and girl with different ideologies.

Aryan (Bhavya Sachdeva) and Kayra (Ankita Sahu) come to Allahabad to participate in a seminar being held by a university there. While Kayra lives in Allahabad itself, Aryan has come from South Africa. While Kayra is inspired by the principles and ideals of Mahatma Gandhi, Aryan draws inspiration from Nelson Mandela. Kabir (Achal Tankwal) and Saima (Kanika Gautam), who are from Allahabad, have been entrusted with the task of looking after the students who come from outside the university for the seminar. Kabir and Saima love each other. Sparks fly between Aryan and Kayra when they meet in Allahabad. However, Kayra is disgusted when she overhears Aryan’s telephonic conversation with his friend. Realising that her ideology just doesn’t match with the ideology of Aryan, she breaks off all ties with him. Learning about Aryan’s mindset from what Kayra tells Saima about the telephonic conversation, Saima also distances herself from boyfriend Kabir. What happens thereafter? Do Aryan and Kayra reconcile their differences and live happily ever after? And what about Kabir and Saima?

Danish Javed has written a story which has no legs to stand on. The writer himself doesn’t seem to know what he wants to convey through his story. His screenplay is so ordinary that it simply does not engage or involve the viewers. Neither is the romance heartwarming nor are the emotions of the kind which could touch the heart. Even the comedy fails to evoke laughter. The worst part is that the audience doesn’t know till the end why the characters are doing what they are doing. It also often feels like the characters themselves do not know what they are doing. All in all, the drama is very lacklustre. Danish Javed’s dialogues are routine.

Bhavya Sachdeva is okay as Aryan. Ankita Sahu does an average job as Kayra. Achal Tankwal is so-so in the role of Kabir. Kanika Gautam is ordinary as Saima. Dipti Mishra lends routine support as Saima’s mother. Riney Aryaa passes muster as Saima’s friend, Isha. Namita Lal is just about okay as Najma. Roma Navani, Abdur Rahman and F.S. Shirani provide dull support.

Danish Javed’s direction is weak. Anjjan Bhattacharya and Shabbir Ahmed’s music is below the mark. Lyrics (by Danish Javed and Waseem Barelvi) are nothing to shout about. Sushma Sunam’s choreography is functional. Sanjoy Chaudhary’s background music hardly adds anything to the weak drama. Shakeel Ansari’s camerawork passes muster. Asad Ahmad’s art direction hardly deserves separate mention. Atit Jaideo’s editing leaves a lot to be desired.

On the whole, Pyar Ke Do Naam is so poor that it will go almost completely unnoticed.

Released on 3-5-’24 at Metro Inox (daily 1 show)and other cinemas of Bombay by Reliance Entertainment. Publicity & opening: terrible. …….Also released all over. Opening was disastrous everywhere.
